Our first week here in Sri Lanka has been an absolute dream. Just a couple days down the South Coast would be enough for anyone to slow down and get back into the natural swing of things. Yoga in the morning, surf in the afternoons, delicious food in between… What more could a girl want!
An unbelievably comfortable stay just makes it that much better. And that’s what we got when we stayed at Kabalana Hotel by Ceilao Villas. Kabalana is an adorable little surf village midway between Unawatuna and Weligama. It’s quiet, clean and beauuuutiful. The water is the bluest and clearest I’ve seen in Sri Lanka so far, and it’s one of the better spots on the South Coast for beginner surfers.
Combine that with an incredible resident restaurant right next door, Ceilao Villas accommodation in Kabalana is the perfect spot to call home for a couple days. On the same street, Ceilao Villas owns both Kabalana Hotel and Lime & Co. Kabalana Hotel is the more luxury of the two, with 12 villas on site and a beautiful outdoor area and pool. They offer air conditioning, comfortable beds, a TV & gorgeous outdoor showers. It was like staying in your own private, luxury beach shack with its white linens and cement flooring. After a long hot day surfing and exploring, a dip in their pool was very much appreciated.
It has a youthfulness to it, and the luxury of it all doesn’t break the bank (rooms starting at around $80 USD.) I think it’s super important to find a place to stay that you not only feel comfortable at, but also want to spend time at. This was totally the case at Kabalana Hotel. We would hang int the sun in the mornings and then hang by the hotel the rest of the afternoon. To us, that’s the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. We couldn’t have done it without Ceilao Villas.
Lime & Co Kaba is their eco-friendly accommodation, keeping their environmental footprint in mind. This means there is no air-conditioning or TV, but its traditional, rustic charm makes up for any creature comforts. To be honest, with the cement floors and ocean breeze, the heat isn’t too much to worry about. They offer a fan and mosquito net as well, for your comfort. There is a communal kitchen & small pool in the back of the property as well for guests to use.
No matter which you stay at though, the staff at Ceilao Villas go above and beyond for their guests. They have 24hr service, so you always have someone there to help. We were always greeted with a friendly smile and an offer to help in any way they can. They truly made our stay the most memorable.
Lastly, we can not stop raving about the food at their resident on-site restaurant, Spice Lane. Seriously, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We ate there for breakfast, lunch & dinner nearly every day we were there. The Coconut Roti Shrimp Tacos, Beetroot Salad, Beef Burger, Roast Chicken, Pumpkin & Feta Ravioli with Turmeric Sauce and Chocolate Brownie were all incredible. But the Coconut Roti Shrimp Tacos were hands down the best. Highly recommend getting those if you are around. All of the food was incredibly fresh, and made that day with love. The staff were the friendliest people we’ve met so far, and they truly made our time in Kabalana special.
As you can see, the people make all the difference when you travel, so it’s important to find accommodation that fits your needs but also has a friendly face to welcome you back at the end of the day.
It’s safe to say you can find all of that and more at the hotels managed by the Ceilao Villas group. We feel so lucky to have had the chance to work with them on this collaboration, and we highly recommend to any of you reading to give their hotels across Sri Lanka a go!
